Quality women’s clothing is defined by more than just its price or brand. Fabrics, fit, precision of stitching, and attention to detail reveal much more. At EX Corde Couture , we’re sharing five key criteria to help you recognize true premium quality.

In fashion, the word “premium” is used more and more often. We come across it in descriptions of designer clothes, luxury collections, and garments that promise higher quality, refined style, and attention to detail.

Premium fashion

But what does premium fashion actually mean? And how can we tell whether a garment truly lives up to its positioning?

The truth is, a high price, a famous logo, or an impressive advertising campaign is not enough to determine the quality of a garment.

Sometimes, a relatively simple design can be made with exceptional precision, while a garment with an impressive design and a high price may have flaws in its fit, stitching, or fabric selection.

True quality isn’t always obvious at first glance. But it can be recognized when you know where to look.

At EX Corde Couture, a Bulgarian premium fashion brand with original designs and our own garment factory, we believe quality begins long before a garment reaches the customer.

It begins with the choice of fabric, continues with the development of the pattern, and culminates in the precise execution of every detail.

That’s why we’re introducing five key criteria to help you recognize quality women’s clothing and make more informed choices when shopping.

What does premium fashion actually mean?

Premium fashion is a segment of the fashion industry that typically focuses on the quality of materials, design, craftsmanship, brand identity, and the overall customer experience.

Unlike positioning based purely on price, the true value of a premium garment should be reflected in its real-world qualities.

Premium quality doesn’t necessarily mean a high price

The price of a garment is determined by many factors—materials, labor, production, design, logistics, marketing, and retail markup.

That’s why an expensive garment isn’t automatically better quality than a more affordable design.

What matters more is looking at what we’re actually getting for the price.

What sets quality designer clothes apart?

A quality designer garment typically combines several important features:

  • A fabric chosen to suit the garment’s intended purpose.
  • A well-developed fit and construction.
  • Precise stitching and quality finishing.
  • Attention to symmetry and small details.
  • Comfort and functionality when worn.
  • Original design with a distinctive identity.

None of these elements should be considered entirely on its own.

It’s their combination that determines the garment’s overall quality.

1. Fabrics—the foundation of every quality garment

Fabric is the first thing to consider when choosing premium women’s clothing.

It determines how a garment looks, drapes on the body, responds to movement, and feels against the skin.

How can we check fabric quality?

Don’t focus solely on its appearance.

Touch the fabric, examine its surface, and gently move it around.

Pay attention to its weight, the evenness of its weave, and how well it regains its shape after being lightly stretched or scrunched.

With stretch fabrics, check whether the fabric returns to its original shape.

With finer fabrics, look for irregularities, unwanted thinning, or visible defects.

It’s important to remember, however, that different fabrics have different properties. Natural linen, for example, wrinkles relatively easily, but that doesn’t mean it’s poor quality.

Are natural or synthetic fabrics better quality?

It’s often assumed that natural fibers are always better than synthetic ones.

In reality, quality depends on the garment’s intended purpose, the properties of the specific fabric, and how it has been finished.

Cotton, wool, silk, and linen all have their advantages, but synthetic fibers can also be an excellent choice for certain types of clothing.

In sportswear, for example, polyamide and elastane make it possible to create stretch fabrics suited to movement.

How do we select fabrics at EX Corde?

For us, fabric selection is part of the garment design process itself.

When creating our designs, we look for the right balance between appearance, comfort, and functionality.

For part of our sportswear collection, we use a fabric made of 78% polyamide and 22% elastane, suitable for close-fitting sports silhouettes.

It features in designs such as EX AERIS, EX AURA, and EX Signature VELA.

When developing our other collections, we tailor our approach to each garment’s intended purpose and the properties we want the fabric to have.

Because premium quality starts with the right choice, not simply the most expensive material.

2. Stitching and craftsmanship—the details that reveal expertise

One of the most reliable practical ways to check a garment’s quality is to examine its construction carefully.

Beautiful design can catch the eye, but it’s the precision of the craftsmanship that determines how the garment will perform when worn.

What does quality stitching look like?

Turn the garment inside out and examine the seams, hems, and edge finishing.

On a well-made garment, the stitching should be even and suited to the fabric.

Check for skipped stitches, loose sections, or excessively long threads.

For fabrics that fray, the edges should be finished appropriately.

Which parts of a garment need special attention?

The most revealing areas are often those that experience strain during movement and everyday wear.

These include the shoulders, sleeves, pockets, zippers, waist, and fastenings.

Check that the seams don’t gather or distort the fabric or create unwanted tension.

For stretch garments, it’s important that the seams allow for the necessary stretch.

Why does in-house production matter to EX Corde?

One of our brand’s key advantages is that we have our own garment factory in Bulgaria.

This allows us to be directly involved in creating our designs—from pattern development to the production of the finished garment.

A key member of our production team is Orhideya, our head seamstress, who has over 20 years of professional experience.

Her knowledge and skills help bring our original designs to life with technical precision.

For us, quality craftsmanship isn’t simply the final stage of production.

It’s part of the philosophy on which we’ve built EX Corde.

3. Precision in the details—when small things make a big difference

With premium women’s clothing, quality is often found in the details that go unnoticed at first glance.

It could be the way a zipper is inserted, the placement of the buttons, or the finishing of a particular decorative element.

What should we check on fastenings and decorative elements?

If the garment has buttons, check that they’re securely sewn on.

Buttonholes should be neatly finished, with no loose threads.

With zippers, check that they move smoothly and that the fabric around them doesn’t pucker.

Decorative elements should be attached in a way that suits the garment’s construction and intended purpose.

How can we recognize precise cutting?

Garments with stripes, checks, and repeating patterns are especially revealing.

In some designs, matching patterns across the seams is a sign of carefully planned cutting.

This requires extra coordination between the individual pattern pieces and sometimes uses more fabric.

Of course, pattern matching isn’t always the intended effect—in some original designs, a deliberate mismatch may be part of the concept.

Detail as part of EX Corde’s identity

When developing our original designs, we aim to give every design element its place.

Sometimes, a distinctive neckline gives a garment its character.

At other times, it’s an open back, an asymmetrical construction, or a distinctive silhouette.

With EX Signature VELA, for example, the signature open back is an important part of the overall design concept.

With EX VELORA, the asymmetrical one-shoulder design defines the dress’s distinctive character.

For us, details aren’t just decoration.

They’re part of what gives a garment its individuality.

4. Symmetry and fit—why does good design require precise construction?

Fit determines how a garment sits on the body.

It affects proportions, freedom of movement, the silhouette, and the overall feel when worn.

Even a quality fabric may not look good if the garment’s construction doesn’t take its properties into account.

How can we check a garment’s symmetry?

For designs with a symmetrical construction, compare the left and right sides.

Pay attention to the placement of the shoulders, sleeves, pockets, and decorative elements.

You can lay the garment on a flat surface, fasten it, and compare the main lines without stretching the fabric.

When trying it on, check that the hem hangs evenly and that the different sections don’t shift out of place.

Does asymmetrical design mean inaccurate craftsmanship? No.

Asymmetry is a widely used design approach in contemporary women’s fashion.

In one-shoulder dresses, asymmetrical necklines, or designs with distinctive decorative elements, the difference between the two sides may be an intentional part of the original concept.

The important thing is that the asymmetry is carefully considered in the construction and executed precisely.

Original design and in-house pattern development

At EX Corde, we believe that a good fit is just as important as beautiful design.

Our in-house production enables direct communication between the design development and its technical realization.

When needed, we can refine specific proportions, construction choices, and details.

This is especially important for close-fitting sports jumpsuits and elegant women’s dresses, where the silhouette plays a leading role.

5. Comfort and movement—the true test of a garment’s quality

A garment may look impressive on a hanger or mannequin.

But its true quality and functionality become apparent when it’s worn.

So don’t evaluate clothing only while standing still in front of a mirror.

How can we check whether a garment fits well?

Try a few natural movements.

Walk around, sit down, raise your arms, and change your body position.

Notice whether the garment allows enough freedom of movement and whether excessive tension develops in certain areas.

Check that the seams don’t shift, the fabric doesn’t bunch up in unwanted places, and the fit doesn’t restrict movement.

Why does stretch matter? Stretch is especially important in sportswear.

It allows the fabric to move with the body and contributes to comfort during physical activity.

But a high percentage of elastane alone doesn’t guarantee a quality garment.

The fabric’s structure, the garment’s construction, and the manufacturing technique also matter.

Comfort as part of the premium experience

At EX Corde, we believe a beautiful garment should not only flatter the figure, but also suit the way a woman moves and lives.

This understanding is especially important in our sportswear collection, where we aim to combine functionality with a feminine silhouette.

Because true elegance shouldn’t come at the expense of comfort.

How can we recognize quality clothing when shopping online?

When shopping online, we can’t touch the fabric or check the stitching in person.

That’s why it’s important to pay attention to the information the fashion brand provides.

Review the composition and product description

A quality product description should provide clear information about the materials used, the design’s features, and its intended purpose.

Pay attention to the photos

Look for images showing the garment from different angles.

Close-ups of details, the back, the seams, and how the garment fits on the body can be especially helpful.

Check the size chart

Different brands may use different sizing standards.

So don’t rely solely on the size you usually wear.

Compare your measurements with the size chart provided.

Learn about the brand and its production

Information about where the clothes are made, how they’re produced, and the people behind the brand can help you make a more informed choice.

At EX Corde, we aim to showcase not only our finished designs, but also the philosophy and production process behind them.

EX Corde—our understanding of true premium fashion

For us, premium fashion doesn’t start with the price or end with the logo.

It starts with the decisions we make when creating each garment.

With the choice of the right fabric.

With attention to fit.

With the professional experience of the people behind the production.

With precision craftsmanship.

And with the desire to create a finished design that’s not merely beautiful, but made to a high standard.

As a Bulgarian premium fashion brand with original designs and our own garment factory in Sofia, we’ve built EX Corde around the belief that true value lies in the details.

We don’t believe quality needs to be demonstrated through unnecessary ostentation.

We don’t think a famous logo is enough to make a garment a premium product.

And we don’t want to create clothing that relies solely on passing trends.

We want quality to be felt the moment you put a garment on.

In the way the fabric feels against your skin.

In the precision of the fit.

In your freedom to move.

In the confidence that comes from wearing a carefully chosen garment.

Because for us, true luxury isn’t about how much a garment costs.

It’s about how well it’s made.
